You Beauty Discovery Box | July 2014

This months YouBeauty box really didn’t tickle my fancy in anyway, in terms of product choice. The few bits that I may have been interested in were out of stock, so I just ended up picking the most practical of the remainder of the bunch.

Julys box is inspired by travel, with the majority of the products being sun cream or fake tan based, neither of which rocked my world, so I opted for the Maybelline Miss Manga Mascara and the Balm Balm rose lip (and more) balm. Both products are a good size, the mascara is of course a full size, and I think the balm is too, if it’s not though then I’m pretty pleased with how big the sample is.

Then for the extra goodies, I was sent a sample sachet of the Egyptian Magic cream, which I’ve tried before and really enjoyed, it’s great for sensitive and dry skin. Also tucked in there was a sample vial of the Agent Provocator perfume Fatal, which I had a little spitz of – it’s nice enough but didn’t seem to last on me too long, and it sort of reminded me of something else.

And then lastly, and most strangely, there was quite a good sized tube of the Dove men’s care shave cream, now when I first saw this is though da faq am I supposed to do with this? I thought about giving it to the boy to try out, but he doesn’t really wet shave much anyway, so I’ve just decided to keep it and use it to shave my legs with instead. It’s all the same anyway! It did get me thinking though that it would be nice to see some of these brands like Dove, who concoct specialist shave cream for me, to maybe create similar for women, as I have quite sensitive skin on my legs, and most convention shaving gels irritate me.

The YouBeauty subscription box is available to order from the 1st of each month. You pay the subscription charge of £6.95 inc P&P, then you just go on and choose you’re two products, and they do all the rest. You can find out more by clicking this link – here.

Dr Stuarts Tea | Detox and SlimPlus

I’m not a die hard dieter, I’m not one for crazy fads or quick fixes, so this is definitely not what this post is aimed towards.

I love food, and I’m a self obsessed snacker too which when combined is a nightmare for trying to shed a few unwanted pounds I seem to have gathered up over the winter. My problem can be attributed to boredom eating, as well as working in an office, where people often bring in naughty treats and wave them under my nose. I have zero will power, I know.

When a colleague of mine suggested I try Dr Stuarts teas, as they’d really helped her combat bloating and curbing her appetite as well as various other things, I done a bit of snooping.

Dr Stuarts have a vast range of different teas, all aimed at different things you may want to change. The teas are all natural and herbal, so I decided to try the Detox range, and the SlimPlus range. Now, just a small disclosure, the SlimPlus range is not to be used as a slimming agent, and it to be taken in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise regime (neither of which I claim to have, but I’m working on it).

I decided to mix these up a bit, so I’ve been having one tea bag per day, for 5 days, then two days of nothing, then another 5 days of the other tea bags. So for example, I used Detox for the first 5 days, then had two days of nothing, then 5 days of the SlimPlus, and I’ve been alternating like that for four weeks now.

The Detox bags contain dandelion root and burdock root, peppermint, and spearmint to help cleanse the body. I found these to be really great at helping with bloating and just generally clearing out toxins – I was constantly going for a wee (TMI?) a few hours after drinking these which is possibly a good sign. I haven’t noticed anything too drastic with these, but I think they help you more on the inside than they do on the outside. They one thing I will say is that they leave such a funny after taste in my mouth that it actually started to make me feel a little bit sick. Not the ideal outcome!

The SlimPlus bags contain fennel, linden leaves and galangal root which is believed to help suppress the appetite. Again, I’m going to stress that this is not to be used as a quick fix for weight loss, it’s simply just to help sustain a good diet. I have been having one tea bag per day, around 3pm which is when I usually start having mad sugar cravings. It’s worked really well so far, and has helped me to curb my sweet snacking, whether it’s just mind over matter more than anything? Who knows, it’s worked for me though! I haven’t lost any significant amount of weight, but that’s not really what’s I was looking to do with these tea bags anyway. I would definitely recommend these if you’re a self confessed snacker and need a bit of extra help to restrain yourself from the biscuit tin.

I’ve also found that having one of these a day has helped cut down on my usual tea drinking too, which is pretty high, as I work in an office and I don’t need much pushing to have a tea break!

You get 15 bags per box, and each bag comes individually packaged, which helps to keep the freshness in and also makes them ideal to take on the go with you.

You can find the whole range of Dr Stuarts teas here – link. I’ve heard really great things about the Skin Purify range, as well as the Tranquility bags, which I think will be next on the list for me to try.

YouBeauty Discovery Box | March 2014

I’m back again with a YouBeauty Discovery beauty box, and I must say, I am still completely converted to them.

The March one for me is a belter, with a 100ml sized BeautyLab GlycoWash, and a 90ml The Body Shop cleansing butter, it’s pretty much topped any beauty box I’ve had ever…

I’ve already reviewed the GlycoWash – link here, which I’m so glad I chose, as it’s been a wonder product for me skin at the moment, and my review of the Body Shop cleanser is coming up in the next week or so, so watch this space if you’re interested in that.

GIVEAWAY: Mandara Spa Travel Bags

Good afternoon lovelies, today’s post is a little different, and comes in the form of a Giveaway. I haven’t done one for a while, so I figured it was about time I got my butt into gear.

A while ago I was sent some lovely Mandara Spa products to try out – link. They arrived and I instantly loved their luxurious feel and amazing scent, so when I was sent another batch, this time two travel bags full of bits, I decided that I wanted to share the love with you lot.

Mandara Spa is not only a bath and body brand, but they’re actually a chain of spa’s around the world, which after having a snoop on their website, I can say look beautiful. When I first received the products, I did think to myself “oh these are going to be a tad pricey” – but surprisingly, they’re extremely affordable. There are four different collections, Tropical blooms, Honeymilk Dreams, Amber Heaven and Island Paradise – each collection takes inspiration from their spas dotted around the globe.

The Honeymilk Dream Spa Escape bag and the Amber Heaven Spa Getaway bag are both up for grabs…

I’ll be picking a winner for each at the beginning of May. They are ideal for taking on holiday, because not only do you get the lovely products, you also get the handy travel bags, which smell amazing – so just imagine how wonderful your suitcase will smell when you open it up! And as I’m sure we all know summer is coming up and travel plans are looming!

YouBeauty Discovery Box | February 2014

So, I’ve subscribed to another beauty box.

Along with my monthly Birchbox delivery, I’ll now also be getting a monthly YouBeauty box.

First off, this box is much more compact in size than any other beauty box I’ve had, but don’t despair, because it’s deceivingly roomy inside, managing to fit in four products…

I really love the design of this box, it’s look like it’s a bit more high end and luxurious than some, and I like that it’s filled with padding to help protect the products and stop them knocking about in the box.

YouBeauty’s selection process for the products you receive in your box is slightly different any other box as well. The idea is that you go onto the website once a month and pick two products you would like to receive, they then add in another two little products for you to try. In this case I picked the GlamGlow YouthMud Tinglexfoliate Treatment

As well as the Teez Mysterious Crystal Eyeliner

Tatty then added in the Charles Worthington Volume and Bounce Instant Amplifying Treatment

And lastly, the Beyond Dark Moments of Pleasure chocolate drops, which as you can see, I opened and destroyed as soon as as I got my box…

Overall I’m actually really pleased with this box, I love the option of choosing two products that you want to try, and I like the very budget friendly price of £6.95 inc P&P, which is nearly half price compared, again, to other boxes currently out there.

Birchbox | January 2014

I know that January has finished, and I’m a bit late with the Birchbox for that month, but things have been hectic busy for me, so I apologise.

I was really surprised, and pleased with the products in January’s box.

The Benefit POREfessional has come at pretty much the right time, as I was really on the fence about buying it. I’ve given it a go a few times now, and although I haven’t seen much improvement with my make up staying on any longer than usual, I have seen a nice difference in my complexion, and have found it helps with applying foundation to give a flawless finish.

I was also really pleased to see that Rodial have made an appearance, in the form of their Glamtox gel. It’s a product which can be applied and left overnight to help rejuvenate skin. I haven’t got round to using this yet, but it’s at the top of my list this week!

The products I have tried though and loved are Delarom’s Aquaconfort Mask, and Premae Anatomy Nutrients Instant Renal Body Oil, both of these have been firm favourites of mine for face and body. The mask has given my skin a bit of extra TLC in the cold, and the body oil just leaves my skin feeling amazingly soft for ages.

Lastly, I had the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer again, luckily Birchbox noticed this and very kindly gave me 50 points for the duplication error. I have previously tried and reviewed this product, and wasn’t a massive fan, but I thought I’d give it another go. Alas, I still don’t see the huge hype around it, it just done nothing for me. Ho hum.

Birchbox is available to order directly from their website, and costs £12.95 for a monthly subscription.
